This album has linked with it an urban legend about someone who deciphered a phone number from the cover, called the number and was told that they were to be taken to Pepperland. The Rosicrucian signature, suggesting a message veiled behind a facade of farce, appears again. This silly story, with its numerous variations remains none the less as part of Beatle lore. As such, the clue that numerical ciphers exist on the album remains available. In 'I Am the Walrus' is the line "man you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allen POE"! In the lyrics printed onthe inside of the album jacket, the name Poe is capitalized for an unknown reason. The line, "man you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allen POE", could be read, "man you should have seen them (the clues) - kicking (checking out) Edgar Allen POE".

    Webster's New World Dictionary:
KICK AROUND (or about), [Colloq.] 4. to think about or discuss.

Interestingly, POE wrote a short story called 'The Gold Bug', about how the discovery of an unknown species of beetle leads to a hidden treasure! A cipher had to be decoded to locate the treasure. The weird coincidences experienced by the discoverer of the beetle that led to the discovery of the cryptogram, are as significant as the theme. You may be amazed.

The phone number rumor hints at two things. Numerical codes can be deciphered from the album, and the message to be conveyed is related to the Sgt. Pepper theme.

A few observations concerning hidden references within this work to Sgt. Pepper's... Why are these references made, and why were they hidden?

The cover of Magical Mystery Tour is essentially identical with the cover of Sgt. Pepper's! As with Sgt. Pepper's, the Beatles are presented as a different group. In both albums the Beatle's costumes are related, yet different. In each they stand behind a banner. Instead of the background of "stars" in Sgt. Peppers, this album has a background of star shapes. Sgt. Peppers has a missing person - the drummer.

A missing person is hinted at here as well.

Reference to Sgt. Pepper's in Magical Mystery Tour

This picture from the MMT album booklet shows John, wearing a hat with a HEART on it, sitting with George in a CLUB, watching a BAND.

The cartoon picture of the four Beatles dancing in magicians garb on the inside refers to "4 or 5 magicians". SPLHCB features Sgt. Pepper as the Dead Man, Magical Mystery Tour the Walrus (it was rumoured that a walrus was a Norwegian symbol for death).

Silly rumors, taken at face value are written off as trite nonsense, yet perpetuate the presence of clues should anybody be familiar with the Rosicrucian technique of disseminating esoteric issues via wild rumors.

The evidence suggests the presence of cryptograms in this golden colored album. The song I Am the Walrus seems more relatable to Poe's 'The Gold Bug' than to 'Alice in Wonderland'. Rosicrucian techniques of planting cryptograms and then hinting at their existence have been employed. The cryptogram may be numerical.

A scene from the Magical Mystery Tour movie featuring Paul and Ringo appropriately dressed as magicians! Notice the blackboard in the background filled with equations. This picture is found on page 4 of the MMT album booklet.
